Cost-Effectiveness and Accessibility of Primary Healthcare Services: An Economic Assessment of Primary Health Centres in Pudukottai District

Abstract

This study presents an economic analysis of healthcare services provided by Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in the Pudukottai district of Tamil Nadu, aiming to assess the cost-effectiveness and accessibility of services rendered at these entities. Recognizing the pivotal role of PHCs in the Indian healthcare system, especially in rural regions, the research focuses on various economic factors and their implications for healthcare delivery. Data were collected through a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative analyses to derive an in-depth understanding of the financial dynamics at play within the PHCs. Key variables studied included operational costs, patient load, service utilization rates, and health outcomes, providing a robust foundation for evaluating the economic viability of these institutions. The findings indicate significant discrepancies in resource allocation and service delivery, highlighting barriers related to financing, infrastructure, and human resources that impede the effectiveness of PHCs.
