Main Article Content
Abstract
This study investigates employee job satisfaction within selected sugar mills in Karnataka, a region known for its significant contribution to the sugar industry in India. The research aims to explore the multifaceted dimensions of job satisfaction among employees, considering various factors such as work environment, compensation, management practices, and interpersonal relationships. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through structured questionnaires and in-depth interviews with employees across different hierarchical levels within the mills. The quantitative aspect of the study employed statistical techniques to analyze survey responses, while qualitative insights were drawn from thematic analysis of interview transcripts. The findings reveal a complex interplay between job satisfaction and various determinants, with significant correlations identified between employee satisfaction levels and factors such as recognition, career advancement opportunities, and work-life balance. Additionally, the qualitative data reveal that employees often perceive a lack of effective communication and support from management, which detrimentally impacts their satisfaction. Furthermore, the study highlights that job satisfaction is not a monolithic construct; rather, it varies significantly among different demographic groups within the workforce, influenced by age, tenure, and role within the organization. The implications of these findings emphasize the necessity for sugar mill management to adopt a more holistic approach to employee engagement, focusing on improving communication channels, enhancing recognition programs, and providing clearer pathways for career development. By addressing these areas, sugar mills in Karnataka can potentially enhance overall employee satisfaction, leading to improved productivity and reduced turnover rates. This research contributes to the existing literature on job satisfaction in the manufacturing sector, particularly within the context of the Indian sugar industry, and offers practical recommendations for stakeholders aiming to foster a more satisfied and motivated workforce.
