Abstract

Retirement planning is a vital component of personal financial management, especially in a demographic landscape marked by increasing life expectancy and shifting economic uncertainties. The Indian financial ecosystem offers a diverse array of retirement investment options, including the National Pension Scheme (NPS), Public Provident Fund (PPF), Mutual Funds, Unit Linked Insurance Plans (ULIPs), Senior Citizen Savings Scheme (SCSS), Annuity Plans, Fixed Deposits (FDs), Employee Provident Fund (EPF), and Tax-Free Bonds. These instruments vary in terms of risk, return, liquidity, and tax efficiency, providing individuals across income groups and professional backgrounds with tailored avenues for securing post-retirement income. This study aims to critically analyse these schemes, assess their performance, and evaluate their relevance to current and future retirees in India, thereby contributing to the discourse on investor awareness and financial preparedness.
